Operation Bolero III in 2009

With the utmost respect for this priceless global treasure, Mr. Lewis and the Bolero team have decided such an arduous journey requires more time. He has discovered that a batch of radiators will only last ten hours before the piece fails. This kind of failure would be catastrophic crossing the North Atlantic and Mr. Lewis is not willing to jeopardize this priceless piece of history. To overcome this challenge, the team is pursuing new technologies to ensure the Girl makes it safely to the UK. Instead of working on a short window of a summer crossing this year, the team will pursue all remedies for a safe and successful adventure in 2009.

A very good friend, sadly no longer with us, flew across the pond in the two seat Me 109 for the B of B film, with his girlfriend in the back!

I did see on the web a while ago of a German group who were about to set out to try to recover the other aircraft on the ‘Bolero’ mission

So does this mean P-38 wartime rads only lasted 10 hours, or are they using a different more available part? I imagine 10 hours TBR when in Europe would also be pretty limiting regardless of how GG got here

“……the team is pursuing new technologies to ensure the Girl makes it safely to the UK. “

It’s called a container, guys.

If they want the P-38 to safely fly the Atlantic, I’d recommend it be in a 747F, AN-124, C-5….

Remember, just because you can do it doesn’t mean you should do it.

I’m sure Steve Hinton doesn’t need the extra P-38 time or the chance to wear a poopy suit for a day or two.
