Does anyone here know the current status of surviving examples of the once popular RAF workhorse the Valletta?
I was amazed to find that after NEAMs sad loss, that only two survive in the UK.
Demobbed show two C.2s VX573 at Cosford and VX580 at Flixton.
I would really like to know how thay are at the moment and are there other major parts about anywhere?

Thanks for that DH112, and welcome. You sound like a Cosford insider?

I wish to lay a myth to rest about the Cosford Valeta Wings. They do exists and last time I saw them and the Aircraft they were finally in the same storage hanger on the far side of the Airfeild. I worked on the Valeta for several years when it was in the museum at which time the wings were stored in what was called the caravan hanger by the fire dump, complete in those days with a vampire pod which eventualy moved to the paint ball site by the M56 junction.

Unfortunately this was the case as the aircraft was privately owned. We were lucky to save one of the engines

Noooooooooo! 🙁

VX577
One engine went for scrap and the other went to the South Yorks Aircraft Museum, although I think it has moved on since then.
The two serial numbers from the fuselage were kept with one at the museum and the other going to the owner.
In addition to the propellors and spinners a section of wing skin with the geodetic and one undercarriage leg and tyre were all kept

I was at NEAM shortly after the fire and the chap there said they had kept one of the engines so maybe it’s still there?

I think it was the RAF who made the mistake!

All thats left of the NEAM example are two props and a slight stain on the ground.
What happened to the engines?

Does anyone know why the RAF spelled it Valetta when the town is called Valletta?
Jim
Oh god another spelling mistake! Very interesting point Jim, and something I didn’t realise until you raised it.
You would think that Cosford would want the set of wings from VX577, maybe they have their own set in storage aswel.

The wings from VX577 were scrapped after Cosford decided they did not need them

All thats left of the NEAM example are two props and a slight stain on the ground. I believe the wings went to help another example, but I don’t know which one. Such a shame.:(

I’ve only seen one pic of it, while in storage, and it was minus its wings.

Isn’t the one at Cosford minus its wings?
