Bellanca Crusair id and subsequent history

Afternoon all,

I am trying to find out the registration and history of a plane my Dad as a keen spotter in the 60’s at Speke flew in a few times. As best as he can remember it was a Bellanca 260 Cruisair and had the tail reg EI-???. Still maintains it was one of the best planes he ever flew in (which from what he has said was nigh on everything flying from Speke at the time!) and would dearly love to know what happened to it.

Thanks,
Jon

Just to tidy things up a little further……N9926F a Model 14-13-2 c/n1564 was transferred to the UK register as G-AREY on O5 Jun 61. A/c was burned out at Blackbushe 08 Aug 69, not sure if that was as the result of a crash.

I recollect seeing G-ASRD at Halfpenny Green in Sept 64, I believe based there with a Mr Peter Bayliss who later went on the own Twin Comanche G-ATET.

Yes, definitely EI-AKR. Should have read your original post more carefully Jon, before mentioning the US-reg Cruisair!

Could it have been Cruisair N9962F which was hangared at Speke in the late 1950s. Not sure if it ever flew though. EI-AKR was certainly there during the summer of 1960, at least.

Dad rang me before with some more information he remembered and matches completely with EI-AKR – tricycle u/c and the reg he was certain was EI-AK?. That to me is case closed!

The only question left now is to find out if my grandparents knew what Dad was up to – assuming it was 1960 he was only 13! I have a sneaking suspiscion they didnt 😀

Thanks to everyone for helping settle this little query 🙂

EI-AKR was registered G-ASRD on 25.3.64, if it is the aircraft in question ?

Jon H…………

Likely it was EI-AKR, a model 14-19-3 c/n 4125.

It was transferred to the UK register 25 Mar 64, registered to Tasman Import/Export Ltd of Manningtree. Crashed nr. Oswestry 12 August 66.

Trust this may help a little………..
