Polikarpov I-15 bis issues

Hello,
My name is Petronio and am a great Polikarpov lover. Im also a rc builder and flyer; some time ago I started to build a scale 1:5 I15-bis Polikarpov like the one in Duxford but in spite of having looked for all the possible information about these planes in 2 years, I have been unable to find good and detailed cockpit pictures of the I-15bis of Duxford. I need them to make a scale finish in my model.
I’m also trying to find the colours (FS references) with which the plane was painted, this seems also an impossible objective for a simple rc enthusiast. Maybe someone of you knows more about this and can help me.I would very much appreciate any possible help about these 2 issues. Regards.

Gary B. thank you for the link, I knew that page but it has not the kind of pictures I’m looking for :S.

Flanker_man, thank you for the link, I had actually seen it but I did not enter because the web-page has seemingly a trojan so you’d better not enter it unless you have a good anti-virus.. I had a look at it and indeed there there was the email. I just sent them an email, hopefully they can and are willing to help me, it is probably really the last and best step to do, to get in contact with the ones who restored the plane.
BTW, why wasn’t the flight demonstration entertaining? Thats a real pity. I had seen the other one restored by Rusavia but I didn’t know it had not flown yet, hopefully the maiden turns out well. The reason I thought the camouflage style Mig-3 was restored by them too is because it has really about the same colorscheme and presumably the same colours as the I-15bis, but I don’t know it for sure.

JDK, well as I drew the plans (some 300-400 h on it!) I based myself on the very nice 3 views from airwar.ru and there are as close to the real vintage one as one can imagine, however as you can imagine reference pictures and drawings from that time are scarce and rather poor, so it’s of great help being able to have a look at a restored one which is (presumably) like the real one or at least as close as possible ;). I have seen that there are some minor changes in the instrument panel but not much more, I will stick to the original 3 views however.

Once more thank you for all your help.

Hi Petronio,
You’ve not said if your model is intended to be an original 1930s Polikarpov, or a model of this one. The answers might be different.

Thank you very much Robbo, every single picture is appreciated. Now I got to know that the plane was probably restored by “Rusavia” but the web page doesn’t work and I dont know how do get in contact with them..dear dear.

Petronio,

Try here for Rusavia.

There is an English version – just click on the Union Flag.

There is more info and pics on the Russian version though….

The last link on the left-hand side is ‘Kontakt’….

The Rusavia Po-2 and MiG-3 were at MAKS 07….

The MiG-3 did a flying display – but he was too far away to be entertaining.

Ken

PS – I don’t think that the MiG-3 above is from Rusavia – IIRC it has an Allison engine.

There was another all-green MiG-3 at MAKS 05 – this is the one from your link – it has an original AM-38 engine, but, AFAIK, has not yet flown.. this is the Rusavia one…

You might want to visit the alpine fighter collections website…

http://alpinefighter.co.nz/

Unfortunately the views are mostly external. I think I have some cockpit shots but they are mostly from “behind the string barriers” so they are not as good quality as the ones posted here.

Wow, that was fast and prolific, thank you very much. Flanker_man thank you for the pictures thats more than I had ;), do you have more or do you know where I could get pictures of the whole of the cockpit?
In respect to the colous, thank you very much for those sources, I will have a look at them. I have a leaflet of one kit but I’m not too sure about the reliability of that. Consider that in order to participate in these scale competitions they really ask you to present almost a pile of scale documents and I would be concerned about the reliability of the source. Ahh, the sim, yes I had inevitable a look at it since I have it installed myself (I usually fly a IX CW Spitfire ;)) but there’s only a I-153 and a I-16 which is not too bad anyway, cockpits are very similar but you know when you do a project like this you use to be picky ;).
And yes, this hobby is very interesting and as you can see very addictive, once you get in its difficult to get out but I guess it’s just like with any other hobby.
Once more thank you very much I appreciate very much your wise support :).

For research into Soviet aircraft colours, you can’t get better than the VVS Modelling website.

Try this www.

http://www.hannants.co.uk/search/index.php?CATEGORY=&DIVISION=&MANUFACTURER=&CODE=&TYPE=&SCALE=&KEYWORD=polikarpov&NUMPERPAGE=25&order%5B%5D=arrived+desc&order%5B%5D=code+asc

Basic search on Polikarpov gets you a number of decal sheets for diff Polikarpovs types that maybe of use for markings and colours but also a few kits of the type your after which could be of use.

Paint wise instructions should tell you the colours you require.

Have you tried looking on the PC flight sim, IL2 Sturmovik?

ISTR that there is an I-15 modelled on that.

I have photographed ‘White 19’ a few times – in Russia.

First at Gelendzhik in 2002, then three times in 2003.

The first time was at Rzhevskiy near St Petersburg, then when we visited Novgorod, it turned up on its flight down to Moscow – and finally at Zhukovsky where it was in the static park.

I took some photos of the cockpit – but how authentic it is, I don’t know.

Hope it helps….
