Any info on Fairey Firefly SE-BRG (Duxford)

Title says it all. Looking for info on Firefly SE-BRG at Duxford, is she still being restored to flight? It would be amazing to see a Firefly back on the UK airshow circuit.

Does anyone know what happenmed to the remains of WB271? – there was no fire, and i’ve seen other aircraft as badly damage restored to flight

See post number 8 on the other Firefly thread

Just looked at ARC’s wesite, and she still looked the same as on my visit in December 07, a “snippette” of her is in my attached pic. Keith.

I emailed ARC shortly after I posted this and this is the reply I got…

The Firefly will be restored to flight condition and is currently awaiting it`s turn inline with the other aircraft currently being restored by this company.

It has been some time since I was down at Duxford (August) so I might not be the best authority on this subject but here goes.

As far as I’m aware, the Firefly is still in storage in one of the public hangars at Duxford, with wings removed. As far as future intentions go, I should first stress that I don’t know for sure, but I assumed the long term plan was a return to flight. What I do know is that ARC have the Blenheim, a Lysander, a Beaver, and the new build Fw-190 to try to get in the air first so I’d be very surprised if they start work on the Firefly any time soon.

I’d like to see a Firefly fly again in the UK too, especially as my interest in historic aviation has only really taken off in the last few years (i.e. after the RNHF Firefly was lost) and I don’t think I’ve ever seen a Firefly complete never mind flying, but I reckon we’ll have to wait a little longer. . . .

If anyone else can add anything I’d be interested too.

Graeme
