Just over 12 months since this was started I can now reveal the results of the first successful forum disposable camera. I’ll let the takers explain the thinking behind their shots.
Imagine a beer called Easijet !!!

I seem to remember I took one of the original images, but I am blowed if I can remember which.

How about a date that is towards the end of the season when we are thinking of next years airshows?
How about 15th October?
Post a pic. Say why, what it is, where….

The second reason is a suggestion (originally made by Ian) that on a certain day this year, as many people take a photo that is aviation heritage related and post it?
I’m up for that!

I had forgotten all about that pic at Hendon – the only forum ‘meet’ I ever made it to LOL

It looked fine until that monstrosity appeared. The sculpture still looks fine, just surrounded by c**p architecture. Waste of a good Gazelle though.

Sorry to open up a zombie thread. It is 6 years since we did the disposable camera idea. I have two reasons….one is the attached photo taken today – people whined about the solstice park (Amesbury, Boscombe Down) Gazelle sculpted into a DragonFly…..Always new it would have a real ugly background one day and today is that day!! Doesnt look so horrible does it now lol!!!
The second reason is a suggestion (originally made by Ian) that on a certain day this year, as many people take a photo that is aviation heritage related and post it?
Any suggestions for the day or any interest.

I don’t know who took it but I recognize the ‘modified’ Gazelle. Basically the tail boom has been turned upside down and some rather large dragonfly wings fitted. It was an engineering project for the apprentices at Boscombe Down and now graces? a service area between Amesbury and the A303. I have to see the damned thing every time we go to visit my sister-in-law.

New to this thread, but it sounds fun!
So we have to take one photo from that weekend?
It can be digital and posted here?
Finally, how do we know, that its from that weekend; the honour system?
Anyway, count me in…

Reminder
Just a reminder to those who thought about taking part, the weekend suggested by EN830 is coming up, so get those cameras out and think where you’ll be….

To make it a bit more interesting, I would be willing to donate a prize to the taker of the one photograph voted the best taken over that weekend by the members of this forum.
The prize would be a print to A1 size on canvas of any photograph by that person. (This would of course depend on the file size of the particular photograph as not all pictures will blow up to A1). Not a huge prize, I know, but worth around about £80.

EN830 – that’s an excellent idea.
Sending a card round has the problem of choosing the format that works with most cameras and the risks of the getting lost etc.
A weekend where we try to get a snapshot of the World’s historic aviation could bring in some good results but be easier to organise – and would enable those outside the UK to take part.
I’m very impressed by the amount of thought that went into the pics above and thanks to Ian for setting it up.

To save the hassle of posting a card around the world, why not pick the weekend nearest to 30 June (28/29 June) and and ask forum members to post a specific historic aviation linked photograph taken over that particular weekend.
The two stipulations are that is has to be to be historic aviation linked and taken on either 28 or 29 June 2008.

Some lovely pics there, good to see the results.
Maybe next time we do a forum memory card and get more great pics from differant places as sometimes getting the one perfect pic is not so easy.

Well done EN830 old chap…
also well done to the photographers….I liked the eclectic mix
of shots…lots of miles travelled!
The Wolvercote memorials brought back happy Memories of crusing the boat from its mooring at Bossom’s Boatyard (off Port Meadow), mooring her carefully, having a drinky in the Trout (made famous by Morse amongst other things) and watching the holiday makers on ambitiously huge canal boats trying to negotiate (oft unsuccessfully!) the tight bridge. Remember the memorials well

Phew! (breathes sigh of relief)
No, the one my Dad saw was near Great Sampford around 1942 – two Hurricanes from the OTU dogfighting. Sadly I can’t remember the pilot’s names. There’s also a pilot buried there who’s Hurricane i saw being uninterred when I was about 7. Between a Dad who remembered things like that and seeing the Hurricane dug out, that’s why I’m here…
