Heard mention on end of BBC Midlands lunch time news that there will be an article on Midlands Today (starts 18.30 – BBC1) about the search for a Lancaster that crashed in Staffordshire (or Shropshire?) 63 years ago and has never been found.

For anyone interested the Lancaster was LM175 of 1656HCU Lindholme. It was last heard of in the Shrewsbury area ,and was classed as missing on a navigation exercise. It was originally with No 100 Squadron at Waltham as HW:D from 22/6/44 to 02/11/44 before delivery to the HCU(Heavy Conversion Unit).
I am wondering if the wartime RAF recovery unit did not find it’s crash location and were not aware of where it came down ?

Thanks for the heads-up Roger.
It’s only a short item but for those (like me) not in the area, you can watch tonights edition of Midlands Today via this link:

The link is on the right-hand side of the page. Probably only available until tomorrow evening though!
