TIGHAR
Locations are being scouted at present …
Sounds great.
Where will she land … that last time?
On a coral reef perhaps?

The Vega at the FORD Museum has been extensively photograph by the movie companyin anticipation of a mock up.
Thanks

As Jack Deth has stated, the big challenge will be finding correct period aircraft, many either don’t exist or cannot be made available.

Since her real Lockheed Vega is in the NASM and probably not available for even static shots, I might suggest the Vega at the Ford Museum at Dearborn, Mich. At least it’s close to Canada…

Hey Fleet–
Thanks for the response. I hope the negotiations go well and we will all look forward to hearing more about the project this Spring!

Guys
I am currently in discussion/negotiation with the movie company so obviously can’t say much yet. There will be a combination of CGI, actual static and flying aircraft as well as some mock ups. The usual techniques of the day.
Hillary Swank has signed on to play A.E.
With two Oscars under her belt, she should do a first class job.
She is currently taking flying lessons so as to get a better feel for her role.
As Jack Deth has stated, the big challenge will be finding correct period aircraft, many either don’t exist or cannot be made available.
I am currently reaching out to owners , museums etc.
Locations are being scouted at present and flying sequences should be from April – June pending weather etc.
If and when my negotiations with then are finalized , I will be able to keep eveyone a bit more informed as to the progress of the project.
I will have more to say in the spring.
It is a big project and should be both fun and interesting.

Fleet–
Thanks for the confirmation. From the article it looks like a really first-class effort with several Oscar winners attached and solid financial backing. I’m sure everyone here will be interested to see how you recreate the Golden Age of Aviation on the Silver Screen.
Is there any more you can tell us while still honoring your contract? (Perhaps by keeping our discussions strictly aircraft related?)
Will there be any actual flying done for the film — or are you planning on mainly a mix of ground static, models, stage and CGI work like in “The Aviator?”
What types of aircaft will be used for the film? With the exception of the Lockheed 10 and Avro Avian, most of the planes used by AE in her flying career are extinct (at least as airworthy examples) and I’m fairly certain there are no Fokker trimotors on floats out there 🙂 I suppose you will have to construct replicas of the (some of the) “hero” planes and use some generic period aircraft to fill in the background of any airfield scenes.
What eras will be represented? The article mentions the “Friendship” flight of 1928, but will the film look much beyond (or before) that — to her flying lessons in Los Angeles — or her transcontinental flights in the Avion — or the solo transatlantic crossing in 1932 — or even the final world flight attempt of 1937?
Needless to say, we’d be interested in anything you’re able to share with us and would love to hear updates of your progress with the film. You and your colleagues certainly have a challenge ahead of you, but one that I imagine will be a pleasure to tackle!
Best of luck with the project.

Dazdaman
I can confirm this report.
On Feb 8 I received a copy of the script as I will be involved with the aerial and ground static aspects of the film.
It will be shot mostly in Canada and filming begins in April.
Can’t say much about it as per contract but it is sort of like the femal version of The Aviator.
