Biggin Hill Airshow. What year?

I recently scanned some old photos taken at a wet Biggin Hill in the mid-90s. Can anyone tell me if it was ’95 or ’96 perhaps? Also, does anyone know the identity of the 109 and where it is now?

I’ve got some photos taken at the same airshow of a mock airfield attack involving the 109 and at least 3 spitfires (including MH434 and ML407).

Why do the spitfires all have the same WO squadron codes? Did they all take part in a film or TV series?

Thanks.

That would have been Hans Dietes? DB engined Buchon, famously flown with Black 6 off the wingtip of the BBMF Lancaster, with a Spitfire and Hurricane on the other side at North Weald around the same date, May 1995, probably the only time anything like that has been performed, has anyone got any photos of that event, I’m afraid I only have it on video.

I must find / trawl / scan some of my slides… I was at N Weald in 95 and vividly remember standing at the front of the crowd line right abreast the Lanc as it cranked up… I remember thinking ‘I hope that beastie doesn’t decide to shed a prop’… 🙂 funny the stuff that goes through your head…

It was a great display by all involved, and a great novelty to have the 109 formed up with the Lanc & Spit.

Ok, if we’re on the subject of Biggin Hill airshows in the days of yore, here’s a box brownie special taken, I think, at some time in the 1960s. Apologies for the quality. I await a learned analysis of the photo and its content!

Thanks, I was thinking it was 1995.

The photos aren’t bad for a film camera, then again, I didn’t post the bad ones 🙂 I have some more from an airshow in Rochester around that time which I’ve yet to scan.

I didn’t know the 109 flew alongside Black 6 and the BBMF Lancaster. That would be a sight to see.

I would guess at 1995.

The Spitfires are carrying the squadron codes used in the BBC Drama “Over Here” and the Bf109 (now with the Messerschmitt foundation?) also appeared in that production along with a suitably repainted ‘Black 6’. That show was aired during the Easter weekend in 1995.

Regards,

Dan

p.s. lovely pictures by the way, better than the ones I took! 😉
