Hi All,
chatting to a pal over a swift half the other night, who is considering acquiring a Hunter gate guard… I thought market would be £2-4000 for a reasonable example plus the cost of moving it, say £500 for a wagon and £200 for a crane> What say you? Am i about right and if so, anyone know of an example up for sale?

Re Hunter’s
Hi TT
We have two people after Hunter’s at the moment, that’s why we were talking about it last week. Typical, when you want one there are non to be seen!

The Humbrol Hunter is available with the site.

Thanks chaps – much obliged to you for your expertise as ever, will print out your replies and hurl them at my chum.
I forgot about the Airfix Hunter – quite a distance away though…
Did anyone get any joy with the Receivers?
If not are there any other airframes ‘known’ to be available?
Its been a while since I was on Nevs pan, but IIRC all his hunters have been sold..?

I moved a Hunter last year for about £300 . The rear fuselage comes off and whilst long i.e 17 feet it’s not particularily heavy . That can be moved on a decent trailer. I then put blocks under the fuselage and removed the wings
with a forklift. Then backed a low loader close to the rear fuselage – lifted it slightly on a gantry and backed under. Quite easy – a bit more time consuming but not expensive. As for the value of a Hunter – aircraft scrap aluminium isn’t that desireable . They are not worth £5500 as scrap – I would value one at £4,000.

Most crane hire firms charge by the hour with a six or eight hour minimum charge. If it had been a few years ago i would have moved it for you myself for a few quid.

Hunter value?
Hi TT
I was talking to Nev Martin about this very subject last Saturday. A Hunter is worth about £5500 scrap value at the moment, which is unfortunatly the way most dealers think! So that would be your starting point.
Should the value of Aluminium come down, so will the basic starting price.

It would be nice if the Hunter at the old Humbrol factory could be saved, IIRC Hull city council had plans to move her to east park and mount her as a gate guard there.
A fate worse than death really!.
That was a while back now and things have gone silent, I suppose once they work out how much it will cost to do it then selling her to line their own pockets might be a more attractive option.
Would need a re-paint and a new canopy but appart from that she looks to be in good nick structurally, the undercart is still there so she can be stood or re-mounted on a pole.
Regards,
John.

Bit out with the costs there Im afraid TT.
When we moved the Viscount we found it was cheaper to use a lorry that had a crane attched to the rear of the cab. The crane basically loaded the airframe onto its trailer. Much cheaper than hiring a trailer plus a crane.
The only minus point is that the reach of the crane isnt as long and not as flexible……but saying that we used it to get a Viscount out of a less than ideal site.
Give these guys a call and ask for Jane or John, absolute stars. Allum Plant Hire 01480 472580
You could also ask Ritch Blood. Belive he has had experience of moving Hunters from Exeter. Not sure how involved with the dismantling etc he was though.

Hi Ben,
Contract lift between £800 and £1000. Times two if lift on – lift off.
Day rate for normal flatbed artic £480 – £500 as suggested but much more for low loader. Also factor in Movement order/escort and 40 mph max speed if over 6.1m wide i.e. wings not removed.
Regards
Ross
