A Concorde to be preserved at last

Has anyone seen the BA Concorde at Heathrow recently on their holiday flight?, I taxied past it in a BA 747 in 2004 and it appeared very abandoned and unloved. Pretty unlikely to happen but if the new terminal and runway got the go-ahead it would be wonderful if it could be put inside the building out of the weather in the departure lounge to remind people how we took a step backwards in evolution in 2003. . . .

There is obviously confidence that Concorde is, and will remain so, popular with the public and be an attraction for many years to come.

This appears to be supported by a section of the ‘reader’s holidays’ page in our local rag. They have on offer a day-trip to Filton to look in Concorde for £89!!!!

£89 for a coach journey (on one of two dates in May) Coventry to Bristol, admission into Concorde and a coach journey back. I’d be interested to know how many tickets they sell.

£1.1 million, mmm, wonder what sort of hangar they are getting for that?
Does not seem a lot of money for a hangar to house a Concorde and all the other things they mention in the press release, however still very good news, one of our staff at work has also visited the one in Barbados and was very impressed with that exhibition.

There was no implication that others aren’t already under cover. Just that after years of decaying slowly in outdoor ‘preservation’ the Manchester bird has some prospect of a lengthier lifespan before it reduces itself to the inevitable pile of oxides on the ground.

Maybe I should have added the word ‘another’ to the thread title. Sorry for any confusion caused.

Don’t quite understand this, thought there were many Concordes under preservation, with Yeovilton & East Fortune with them undercover.

I’ve always used “No longer OF use”, myself. That’s a spirit of the posts, anyhow, all the cool planes that COULD be of use, but no longer are used 🙁 🙁 🙁

Great stuff! Good to see another concorde go under cover in the UK!

East Fortune’s Concorde has been under cover since it arrived, and is open to visitors….I was told, don’t know if it’s true but Concorde and it’s hanger there are also licenced for Weddings, again I was told that this was the reason why so little was in the hanger with it.

A Concorde has always been preserved…remember that an Air France Concorde is preserved undercover in the U.S. at the National Air & Space Museum.:D

Yes excellent news ! Have seen things “elsewhere” about this, so much has been lost in the past, hopefully preserving this unique aircraft is just the start of a new awakening, for my children and their children etc etc ! Keith.
