Hi Forumreaders,
I am looking for the colourscheme drawings for a RAF Harvard IIB as it was
painted during WW2. This scheme was used in 1946/1948 in The Netherlands as well. Just the roundels and (later) finflash were replaced. Camo and serial remained the same.
Who has, or knows where to find those drawings ? Just dark earth (BS450), dark green (BS641) and yellow (BS368) is not good enough; I do need all the details as well. Roundels (acc. AP2656A), serial and all technical data.
All help very much appreciated.
Regards,
Benno

Thanks Rob – just to say that I wont be around that often in the weeks ahead as still have soooo much to do and organise.
Had a little look on the net just now and came across this, which talks about the rebuild of G-CTKL, the MK.IIB which started me all off in the warbird world in the ’80s. No mention at all is made to my contributions and work towards the colour scheme and it seems that MAPS know all about Harvard schemes, so I suggest that they would be the best people to ask!!

Morning all – would like to also like to say sorry to hear about what’s happened Martin.
No idea if it’s relevant to the discussion or not or if the roundel sizes are the same, but I did a bit of a walkaround of the Hendon Harvard back in December (I believe it’s painted as a Canadian based one though), uploaded the photos here

Hi all,
With help from some friends and the FP-forumreaders I do have now details for the pattern left and right, and also the info for the stencils. However still looking for the outlines of the letters/numbers (I do have the size) for the serial and the toppattern of the camo. Who can help ?
RAF-Harvard IIBs went to The Netherlands, Belgium, Denmark and Norway in the early postwar-years; basically all with the same colourscheme, so pictures from those will help as well.

Benno

I have the sheets for lettering and sizes at home. If you can wait a day or two, I’ll nip home and scan the relevant sheets (Dad and me live in the same village…well it is Cornwall 🙂 )
Happy Landings,
Martin

Harvard IIB; serials, how do they look like ?
Hi again,
As TexanTomcat already wrote, “so that should keep him busy for a while”. I do have the “RAF General Markings 1939-1945” now. There is als a table about the serial-size and that helps a lot. But was there a seperate specification how the letters and digits should look like ?

Benno

Cheers,
There was quite a lot of discussion with MAPS and myself when I came up with the new colour scheme. I think I have kept all of the correspondence, so when home will dig it out.
Phew, well it is so different here at Dad’s at the moment, I just dont what to say. You certainly know who your friends are at times like these and I never ever knew so much had to be done and organised. Least coming here gives me a kind of mental break from it all. I appreciate everyone’s kind comments.
Best wishes,
Martin

Martin – give it time mate – its tough, but having been there it does get easier over time.
I have chucked the MAP charts and other gen at our favourite Flying Dutchman 😀 so that should keep him busy for a while 🙂

Thanks chaps for your kind comments – so much appreciated.
As to KL I dont hold any of the details myself now and MAPS and the fellows on here will be the better options. I’m not currently at home and will be staying with my Dad for the next couple of weeks, so wont be able to assist further until then. Hope thats ok?
Best wishes to all,
Martin

Hi Benno – told you Martin would know! (BTW sorry to hear your news Martin)
Meantimes I’ll dig out the MAP camo chart I have somewhere, IIRC the charts are for single engined fighters but I imagine the basic upper camo config was broadly the same – will copy and send to you.
Your warbird colour boffins are Mark V and Fluffy – Steve (aka Mark V – Warbird Colour Services) will certainly have the correct FS/MAP/RAL numbers (or whatever they are) for the dark earth/dark green etc (so will Fluffy -he’s BBMF- i imagine)

Hi,
Sorry to hear that your mum passed away. Please contact me when you are ready to do so. Seems as the CTKL-info can be of great help.

Benno,
I did the scheme for G-CTKL when it was recently repainted to represent FE788 at Boscombe Down in 1944. I do have a number of period photos both Dutch and RAF that might assist too.
Only problem at the moment is that my Mum passed away a day ago and so at this present time I am really not in a position to assist. Perhaps in a day or two, I might be able to get my head around other things – I’m surprised in a way that I’m here!!
MAPS at Rochester did the painting and the stencilling of KL, so perhaps they still hold the reference material?
Best wishes to all,
Martin
