Aviation Prints- Amazing & Unusual Subjects

I’ve just spent a most satisfying 90 minutes or so poring over the most amazing collection of digital aviation art (thanks to Skyraider 3D’s link which took me there).

Background: I’m looking for an exciting and unusual WWII print for my small part of the house (my sanctuary, where all things aviation are hung, displayed, book-cased etc 🙂 ) For my liking there are too many ‘Head on Lanc’ type pictures on sale. They’re great, don’t get me wrong, and I can understand why the most popular subjects tend to result in similar pictures.

But if you want something different, use the link at the bottom of the post. For example. I’ve looked at the poignant image of a Lanc, but this time mortally wounded, at night. A very moving picture, but not one I feel I would like on display. I’ve seen tremendous dogfight images which look very sharp because of computer imagery and seem to place you right in the action. What’s exciting about them is the way that the subject matter has been portrayed. Take a look and you’ll see what I mean.

Anyone who is familiar with my postings will know I’ve no reason to peddle, so mods, I hope you’ll permit this post. My intention is to raise awareness to readers that there is a choice out there – fancy taking a look at some great CPLAF renderings? Or Gallands Doras on take-off?

Beauty is in the eye of the beholder – digital renderings are not everyone’s cup of tea, for sure. But I’m going to take a serious look at them after viewing these artists’ work.

Is there a large demand for this type of art image? As a friend of GAVA, and an aspiring artist I’m always on the lookout to try something new. Those images (especially the Komet blazing skywards) are very impressive. Are they all hand applied media or digitally enhanced?

I agree on the burning Lanc picture – very good, but not something I’d have up in the living room… ‘Last Flight’ is an impressive study into the light from flame….

Thanks for the nice comments everyone, and thanks Seafuryfan for posting this and also emailing me about this forum !

You’ll find new artwork up on the site almost every month by the way, so please keep looking around the site on a regular basis.

I also plan to add desktop wallpapers for download soon.

Thanks,

Wiek

Some superb and unusual action paintings there, not particularly to my taste as predominately military, so I would highly recommend the exhibition held in London each year in July, unfortunately only open for six days, for a more general selection of aviation art.

The print entitled “The Eagle’s New Wings” caught my imagination. Another “what if?” that has been visualized for us. Simply stunning!

“Still Waters” was another that made me look again.

It’s days like these that I thank God that my Dad had bought a few David Shepherd, Michael Turner, Robert Taylor and Gerald Coulson prints all those years ago… I’d also like to thank my Dad for buying them.

some of these are cracking – I’m with you on the “oh look, another Robert Taylor Lancaster/B-17/Spitfire”…….. some unusual angles and subject matters, I’m at work and this will kill the time until lunch…..! agree with you on the burning Lanc, I’d not be too sure about a “dakka dakka dakka” type picture, but I’ll go back and look again at these. Thank you
