Death of veteran pilot

G’day All, The Australian aviation industry is mourning the death of veteran aussie pilot Col Pay, who died on Friday December 7th when the modified Air Tractor AT-802 he was flying crashed into Lake Liddell. The aircraft got into difficulties whilst engaged in a fire fighting exercise scooping up water, when it tragically hit the surface, flipped and sank. Col was an extremely experienced crop duster and water bombing pilot as well as restorer of historic WW2 aircraft. His Supermarine Spitfire MkVIII VH-HET(MV239) that he restored from the ground up, is now the flagship of the Temora Aviation Museum, having purchased it from him in 2000. His flying displays in the Spit are legendary!! He also owned and displayed Australian built CAC P51D Mustang (VH-AUB) as well as his newly restored P40E Kittyhawk. Col had over 50 years flying experience and was aged 75. Blue skies and fair breezes Col, you will be sadly missed.
