Early Hurricane L1944

See attached scan of L1944 believed to have been taken at Usworth or possibly Acklington in 1939.

The codes appear to be AW. Was this the pre-war code for 504 Squadron ?

THe reason I suspect it is not Hucknall is that it has come from the 607 squadron photograph album and I have no record of 607 squadron ever going to Hucknall.

Yes. They received their first Hurricanes March 1939 so it is likely that some were coded AW. Wouldn’t the location be more likely Hucknall? See article Flypast Aug 2007.
