Heard today

Usually most warbirds are now in winter hibernation, however I was in a meeting in Ipswich this afternoon when the unmistakable sound of something with a merlin passed overhead. It sounded fairly low, but unable to escape to see what it was. Any info?

Sorry, but I walked into Braintree town centre on monday morning and saw a Griphon engined Spit heading south, travelling right over the town centre at about 500 ft, nice sight for my birthday, we must be blessed in this place.

Big Beautiful Doll flew low over my home in Pettaugh, Suffolk on Saturday afternoon so may well have been source of Merlin noise earlier in the week.

Must have been quite an echo…. Sadly I had to work on Saturday (the only weekend day all year) so didn’t get to see the Doll….

I saw a clipped wing Spitfire fly very low along Bradford Street, Braintree, heading north east yesterday afternoon.
This is normally the route back to DX, but sometimes they head towards Sudbury and into Suffolk which seems to be the route for helicopter traffic from Wattisham, particularly SAR’s.
Presumably Ipswich is only 15-20mins flying time from here so it could be a possibility, any explanation anyone.

I must also add that living near Eye, I find it an extremely rare treat seeing a certain Mustang that isn’t based locally flying around very occasionally!
