Bayeux Museum…

Does anyone have any photographs from the Bayeux Museum. I am looking for any or all pictures of the Typhoon parts they have on display. Close ups of all the parts recovered would be really handy.

Also does anyone have any contacts at the museum that they would be willing to get in touch with regarding what was recovered? Looking at the few photographs that I have then I think there may have been more recovered than is on display.

Thanks for any help…feel free to PM if you want

Bayeux Museum

Have to confess it is several years since I visted this museum – have driven past a few times since, but failed to persuade the wife & kids to go around again! 😮

I did take quite a few photos – mainly of the substantail reconstruction of a wrecked Spitfire – may not be everybody’s idea of what should be done with it, but the visual impact to the casual visitor is pretty impressive – I do recall some Typhoon parts in a display case and a couple of Hispanos from it nearby on a stand – think I took photos of the latter – mainly for the details of the stand with a thought to copying it for our growing collection of old iron!:D

I think there may be some confusion – the Museum in Bayeux I think DaveR is referring to is the Musee de Bataille de Normandie (extremeley good museum on the Bayeux ringroad) which from memory does have some Typhoon pieces & some more substantial Spit IX remains.

The Typhoon Ollie refers to is a replica and is on show at the nearby Memorial Museum at Caen.

that would be great if you have any pictures of the typhoon parts. I have some pictures but they concentrated on the engine and the cockpit parts in a display case….there are other parts in the shots but I can’t tell exactly what they are. I was told there were parts from 2 recovered typhoons, can’t recall the serial numbers off the top of my head but one was MN (142 I think) and the other was a JR range.

I can’t recall a museum at Bayeux, there is a monument and a cemetery. There is also a museum called The Museum of Peace just outside Caen, that has (or had in 1998) a 2/3rds mock up of a Typhoon suspended from the ceiling.

The Bayeux museum(Battle of Normandy Museum) is on the ring road just to the east of the British Military cemetery, drove past it last in May this year, last time I went in was about 10 years ago and don’t remember any Typhoon parts on display so they may be a newer addition.
