Interesting people you meet on public transport!

G’ day all formite’s

Well a while back I was taking a bus, and reading a book, History Of RAF a good little one for the road, when the Bus driver asked me if I liked aircraft!!

Well of course I said yes!!!!!!!

Turn’s out he was an Ex RAAF Erk Mech, and is still in love with the Merlin Engine, as he said he did his apprenticeship on them.

Well he also told me there is a complete CAC Mustang in the City of Melbourne and had I seen it , In a building but with my Cog prob’s I forgot where he said??

He also said the Yank’s were very serious about putting Mossie’s in to production, for the Vietnam War ??

, I may have heard that before Mossie story before, but Cognetive wise at the moment, I am forgetting a lot and scrambling spelling and word’s when talking, getting damn frustrated as the MS wipe’s me hard drive, and shut’s down the Com system’s to mouth and body. REAL FUN!!

Then while on a Tram(Yes we still have em), while reading a book about Jap War Trial’s, an old boy next to me said, I was at those trial’s and had to stay in Japan til 48!

Oh I said were you a grunt, wavy navy, or Raaf.

Raaf he say’s, and do I know what a B-24 Liberator was or is!

Well I shot back of course, YES I sure do mate, And added My Grandad was an Erk up North in Papua and other place’s all over Oz in WW2.

Turned out he was a Tail gunner on B-24’s and other aircraft, and did his training mostly down at Sale, Vic.

Course I said did you get any jap’s, and he said three kill’s and knocked lot’s of bit’s off other’s.

He Laughed and said he can still speak fluent Japenese, An Ocupational Hazard as he put it laughing.

I asked what he thought of the War trial’s, he laughed again, and said it was all a sham run by the Yank’s, He said that the ” I will return bast@rd ” rigged the lot!!

And most got away with it all, and he still hate’s them and there Motorbike’s and Car’s to this very day.

Did not think much of there aircraft either, Mentioned the ” One Shot Lighter ” joke.

Damn I was really Spewin I had to get off the tram, BUT as he said he’s a local Essendon boy, born and bred, I hope to catch up with him again, before he clock’s off.

We really have very little time now, to get theses story’s straight from the horse’s mouth’s.

We be sad when all that history is gone, so to all the old boy’s that fought all the War’s

Thank you all once again,

Lest We Forget

R.I.P.

Must crash, Hot day and night, knackered real bad, ” Gut Nacht ” all

Ciao

Yes it does happen occasionally, while travelling on an East coast mainline train back to Retford a gentleman walked past who I immediately recognised-none other than Richard Todd of “Dam busters” fame.Needless to say I was so surprised all I could do was ask if it was him.:)
