Crashed on April 17 1953 the pilot was Peter D. Freytag and he was 30-year-old president of the American Aircraft Corporation of Teterboro, New Jersey (and an ex WW2 Naval Pilot). The Spitfire crashed into Bald Mountain in the Ramapos (part of Appalachian Trail). While he was training for the London-New Zealand air race of October 1953

Makes you wonder if parts of it is still there?
