RAF “Field Service” air publications

I opened a thread about RAF air publications recently, with a number of people offering excellent advice as to where and how to find what you are looking for.
I have located a number of RAF publications that are not AP’s but FS. I am pretty sure they are not Royal Aircraft Factory publications as the date of this one is 5/18, a date after the Royal Aircraft Factory was renamed the Royal Aircraft Establishment, so as to avoid confusion with the then newly formed Royal Air Force as of 1 April 1918.

I am assuming that FS stands for Field Service, following the Army publication scheme at the time.
I also assume that RAF publications were initially issued as FS publications for a period of time before breaking from the army scheme to its own unique system.

Does anyone know of any other FS publications that are related to RAF type subjects? or know how the publication system worked at that time?

Thermographs

Lyffe
I have found reference to the type of instrument you are interested in. The following information is from a document dated May 1920.

6A/112 THERMOGRAPHS, 2 hour
6A/113 THERMOGRAPHS, 6 hour
6A/114 THERMOGRAPHS, self recording

Hopefully these are the instruments you are interested in.

Barothermograph

I’m afraid no titles that directly suggest that barothermographs would be in them. They are not present in my 1927 copy of the AP1275 “General Instrument equipment for Aircraft”. In a 1930 addition, Airspeed recorders and Altitude recorders were added.
One of the FS publications is a “scales” book, which may have the item, good luck with finding a copy.

I regret I can’t help answer your question, but is there any chance the words ‘Meteorological’ or ‘Barothermograph’ appear on any of the FS publications? A barothermograph was a small instument fitted to an aircraft’s wing to record the variations in temperature during a flight. It was of RAF manufacture and was mostly used by Meteorological and Experimental Flights.
