Heard a whisper today that there is to be no rally at Woburn next year, though the reasons have not yet been expanded upon .
All good things come to an end, and many people have perceived a change in the atmosphere over the last few years, with more regulation, higher prices, and most important, just less fun really. Seemingly, the Moth Club has been put in a difficult position, with diminishing influence over many important aspects of the rally.
This year’s event was marred by the weather and was consequently smaller in scale and really was a vivid contrast to the glory years.
I would expect that the Moth club will be working on another event somewhere, and no doubt time will tell.

A word from “the gaffer”; Stuart McKay at dH Moth Club HQ:
The point seems to have been missed is that the 2008 Rally will be at HALTON.
The handout says there will be no Rally at Woburn in 2008, not that there will never be another one there!
There. That’s told us !! 😉

What an absolute shame it will not take place at Woburn any more, I do hope Sywell will be the alternative. The atmosphere there is just about right:)

I was about to suggest that would be a good idea 😎

I wonder if Longleat is aeroplane friendly? They did after all host the Red Bull event last year.
Also, there are already plenty of lions, so maybe they could budge up a bit and make room for some Tigers!
It is great to see some more Moth activities at Halton which is such a great and timeless little airfield, and nice also that it looks as though there will be a station open day next year.

Well done, I would consider changing your title now rather than being “rank 5” (go to the User CP)
So any idle speculation as to an ideal place the Club could hold future Rallies? Airfield, park or stately home?

Congrats on the thousand!
I’ve only got up to 358 – a large proportion of which are apologising for the rest!!:o

Blast ! Tens years gone by, and I never even noticed.
My one thousandth post, and its nothing but a grovelling apology!
Sorry.
There is nought to worry about.

I’m afraid it’s more than a rumour.:(
Moth Club members received the following “Electric Moth” bulletin on Friday
DIARY DATES FOR 2008
As plans progress for the early part of the 2008 season we can advise of the following confirmed dates. There are some major changes to the usual programme:
14 June. Charity Flying and Air Display. RAF Halton, organised in association with RAF Halton Station Open Day.
15 June. Charity Flying, Air Display and International Moth Rally at RAF Halton.
There will be no Moth Rally at Woburn Abbey in 2008.
It is sad that it has come to an end, but following the death of the former Duke of Bedford in 2003 and the appointment by the son and heir of a load of “management consultants” to run the estate, we owe Stuart McKay and his team a huge debt of thanks for keeping the event going for so long!!
