Just a quick question… In the UK books are tax free, right? How does it work with imported books? Are they import tax free too?
More specifically, when ordering some heavy flight manuals from the USA (value: several hundred dollars) is it likely customs will add import tax on top of them?

Possibly, thanks. (wow, quick reply there by the way!)
“Generally speaking, VAT is payable on all imports at the same rate that would apply to the product or service if supplied in the UK.”
That would suggest they’re import tax free as long as they’re labelled as “books”…?
My understanding from my book retail experience in the UK was that you might get hit with duty but you can reclaim it if they do charge. They should not.
I’m a little out of date, so there may have been some changes since.
