Hi folks, I wonder if anyone can help me identify an aircraft part?
It is a piece of, I think, steel piping. Actually it is 2 bits off a longer installation as the tube has been broken off at both ends. The two sections are joined together with alloy fittings and wire locked. The markings are as follows:
top line: 54145/7715
second line: Z16214/2
to the right of these are two circles, one contains the letter T the ends of the upright and cross arms of which touch the edge of the circle the other contains the marking 6s
921.
I’d post some photos of it but I’m at work and don’t have access to my photo files.
I have seen a cutaway of the Spitfire and have noticed something which roughly matches the shape of the piece I’ve got. If it is the same component then it apprears to be part of the coolant plumbing low down on the port side of the engine. If that is the case, would it have been common to all Merlin installations regardless of aircraft type?
I cant’t remember who gave it to me as it was some years ago but it was purported to be from a Spitfire which may or may not be true.
The pipe is approx 1.75-2.0″ dia.
Thanks in anticipation of your assistance
Mike.

I’l try to post the photos from the computer at home when I find out what the wife’s been playing at as I can’t get into any of my files or on the net since she’s been playing.
I’m not sure whether the part numbers are the manufacturer’s or end user’s but they are on a plate attached to the pipe by some method. At that time I would have thought brazing would be most probable.

Mike – it’s the right diameter for the cooling system but those don’t look like spitfire numbers to me.
A pic would be good 😉
