The Ghosts of KG40

Hello Jack,
My records agree with the book, in addition, H6 4430 broke up in the air and crashed at Bwlch-y-fen near Gwalchmai Anglesey.
New to me was that the Beaufighter that Shipyard and Oxby were flying was X7540 coded WM-S, the very first Beau off the Oldmixon Weston super Mare assembly line, it first flew on 20 February 1941.
There were component shortages at this time and in order to get X7540 into the air without further delay, some components were obtained from the CRO at Chittening including earlier type U/C Doors which can be seen in photographs taken at AAEE Boscombe Down prior to its issue to 600, 68 and 141 Squadrons, 7540 eventually coming to grief in the hands of 51 OTU at Cranfield 31 May 1943.
Thanks Jack very good to know that “Weston’s First” had at least one success in the night sky.
