The Nuthampstead Airfield Research Society and the people of Great Hormead and Hare Street, Herts. are planning to erect a memorial in memory of Lt. Archie S. Daniels (‘Sonny’) in June 2008. Sonny crashed his P-47 in Great Hormead on 11th February 1944, having experienced mechanical difficulties shortly after take-off from Duxford. Sonny was 23 when he died.
To erect the memorial, the volunteers need to raise approx. £1,000 ($2,000) to cover the engraving, installation and planning consents. The granite stone was very generously donated by the local County Council and the landowners have been extremely supportive and given their consent to the memorial site being used.
We now need help in raising the remaining funds and making this project happen.
If you would like to help and make a donation we would be extremely grateful for your contribution. Likewise, if you are aware of a business, or organisation who would be keen to have their name associated with the memorial unveiling, then please do not hesitate to contact us.
We were successful in erecting a memorial at nearby Nuthampstead last year and are hopeful we can honour Sonny in a similiar way.
