It hardly seems like 5 minutes has passed since the Lancaster left Coventry. I thought I would have a quiet time before the next project but it wasn’t to be and now, here it is. MK356, a MkIX Spitfire flew in to ARCo this morning for a Major Servicing. It was flown by Sqn Ldr Al Pinner. It is due out end March 08 complete with new engine and colour scheme. I will document it like I did with the Lancaster for anyone who is interested.
You can read a bit more about it on the BBMF website at http://www.bbmf.co.uk/news.html
Here are a few photographs I took today.

It is a plaque put there by the guys who rebuilt her at RAF St Athan

What’s the little plaque in the cockpit- BBMF crest? Squadron badge?
Not sure. It says what type of aircraft it is. I am down to ARCo Monday and will have a look unless one of the BBMF guys has an answer first.

Thanks for the update & pics Jack.
Btw, will she have the earlier non broad chord rudder she originally had when she was first restored, fitted again?
Cheers
Paul
No. The rudder is staying the same. The big one is better for crosswinds so less restrictive crosswind limits.

Sad to see the old scheme go, but look foward to the new one.

Very nice cant wait too see it in its new colours scheme 😎 Just wondering was this Spitfire out much at all for the Airshow season? And when is the Dakota ZA947 have maintenance or has it already been looked at ?
James
MK356 flew just over 31 hrs this season. The Dak had a Minor servicing in 2005/06. It has an annual servicing at BBMF.

Just wondering if it’s a green grey scheme, or whether it was a brown North African style one:
🙂

You meant ‘sanded’?

The new scheme will depict a 601 Squadron aircraft based in the Italian theatre in 1943.

I can’t wait. If this is as good as your blow by blow account of the work on the Lancaster it will be interesting to see.
