Are any Members of the Forum able to enlighten me as to who owns the Tempest/Sea Fury regularly seen on fine weekends flying at approx 1000 feet up the A3m/A3 corridor heading North and returning some hours later? The Centaurus is very distinctive and sounds superb as it trundles by. Only once, many years ago was I treated to some gentle aerobatics over Horndean.
Does anyone know where it is based and can be seen and enjoyed up close?
Aircraft identification has proved impossible even with good binoculars- might there be a Yeovilton connection?

Fair enough Propstrike. Thanks for the info. Its a shame though. I cant remember a gaggle of Furys at an airshow since the late 90’s. Would be fantastic to see them all reunited in one place.

Hello all,
Forgive me if this questioned has been answered numerous times, but how come we never see this Fury on the airshow circuit? With TFC aquiring a small fleet of Sea Furys recently, any chance of it popping down to DX?
Having spoken to JB at Kemble, where it lived for a while, it seemed to me that he had some strong opinions and issues regarding airshows, remuneration and participation, which made public displays improbable.
If there is a glut of the type at Dx, that would make an appearance from JB even less likely.
He seemed most preoccupied with the expenses involved with the Fury operation, which is not surprising! I think his pension was funding it all.

Does anyone have an update on G-CBEL, is she still with Air Atlantique at Coventry and is she still flying?
Still owned by JB. Housed at CVT and airworthy.

I doubt you’d have seen G-CBEL over your way.
I asked a friend who lives locally and he said:
‘When John had it at Hurn his favourite place for doing aeros seemed to be over towards the former airfield at Tarrant Rushton. His flights were usually about 20 min. long and nearly always seemed to involve heading out to the NW from here.’

possibly one of the yaks operating out of goodwood or shoreham? I know when I was based that way last year they’d pick hayling Island as a brilliant place to perform over and then depart due north. Doubt it was G-CBEL I live right under the flight path at coventry now and bust a gut to get outside everytime I hear something I don’t recognise.
Could be the answer. Just wondering if this might have been the aircraft spotted all along -perish the thought! Will get get out the reference books to fine tune my identification skills.

Second attempt at posting – here goes!
Did see the aircraft briefly, at height, and from below. A large radial, certainly, but maybe not by Bristol – clipped wings. Certainly flying in the same direction as last year ie down the A3 corridor. Goes to show how friendly fire operates! Back to square one……..
Thanks to all contributors – the quest continues.

Fury at Coventry
With the Bradshaw Fury now residing at Coventry wondered what the possibilities are for viewing the aircraft ?
With an unofficial Fury spotters fan club emerging 😉 its a pity that flight times can’t be announced to maximise opportunities to see this rare treasure in action.
Obviously weather and serviceability play a big part, but with the aircraft not attending many shows ,its sad that so few sightings occur.

Said Fury now resides at Coventry with AA Classic Flight, ergo doubtful that thar be her. Possibly RNHF’s Fury? Lee Howard Where are you?
I’m here! Nope, not VR930 (and won’t be for the rest of this year by the looks of it) and not VX281 either. Was the aircraft actually seen, or was it a guess at a Centaurus?

Fury FB.11 sighting 1615 today
Hi Folks
Lawn mower out for first soggy cut of the season then Hark! do I hear the sound of a Bristol Centaurus? Yes Indeed! Like a harbinger of spring, the Fury returning to Hurn along the A3 corrider! I surmised with the Museum problems, I might have seen the last comings and goings last year. It is great to see JB flying locally again.
That’s all
Cheers

Hi Martin
Really excellent work!
It would be handy if JB could put on a display for you but I fear level flight at (I guess) 1000ft is only what we’ll see otherwise. Not much of a profile even for your excellent lenses. Perhaps a trip to Hurn may be called for….
Best regards and thanks again for your link.

Hi Martin
Only a fleeting glance retreating southwards so I may have been mistaken. Goes to prove how easy for AA to shoot down its own side in times of war!
Think the coconut may need to be be put back in the box but favour your sighting- mine was for a single aircraft, though. May have goofed-only JB could confirm. Wonder if he realises he has a fan club for his flights?regards

Hi Ron
Thank you
Hopefully next time I see this mystery aircraft I will remember to grab my camera. I should have a slight chance of seeing the Fury again. I did not realise before seeing this thread that it usualy flies along the A3 corrider
on a once a month flight.
It would be nice, as you say, if JB could confirm any of the sightings.
I the meantime, just today, I have sighted three other mystery aircraft. I have opened up a thread for them

Hi
at 2.55pm today I think I saw John Bradshaw’s Fury passing between Headley Down and Grayshot on a path down the A3 near Hindhead.
The profile was unmistakable and with the typical noise of the Centaurus engine. I heard the aircraft for several seconds before seeing it.
It was flying beside two other aircraft. The other aircraft were a liitle further away and may have been yellow and more or less flying behind each other. Could only hear the centaurus engine. Not sure what the other aircraft were.
I was in my garden picking up leaves. I am now going out to finish the job.
With a bit of hindsight I had enough warning to grab my camera. Never mind but it was quite far away.
Thanks
Martin

Hi All,
I’m new on this forum and this topic “fall” on the right moment.
Very recently a friend of mine told me that some (4?) Iraqi Sea Fury were later sold directly to the Moroccan Air Force. Did anyone have some informations or picture(s) concerning this sale??
Thanks for any replies!

Fury sighted briefly returning to Hurn at 1230 today. Anyone see the outward flight?
Can I claim the coconut?
