I recall a visit here to a fly-in in September 1979, following a plea for support when the airfield was threatened with closure and/or being built on.
What was the history of this airfield and did it succumb to the developers or is there still some form of aviation going on there?

Butzweilerhof in the net
Hello everybody
I get a notice from a comrade of the RAF, that you search informations about the Butzweilerhof. My hobby is the historie of my hometown Cologne. Of course, the Butzweilerhof is a the maintheme.
I am sorry to say, but now in december 2007, the old buildings of the RAF were torn down. Then IKEA will build a new furniture market.
But if you like to the some fotos of the old buildings, please go to my website http://www.koelner-luftfahrt.de/raf_2007.htm.
If you like to have more fotos of the Butz, please let me know. On the other site, I am allways searching for information of the RAF after 1. and 2. WW on the Butz. If you have any kind of documents, please let me know. We have only very limited material.
With kindly regards
Werner

One of the runways (22) was still visible on googleearth until a month or so ago
This Flashearth link shows the remaining runway, before it too disappeared.

From crawling through Google….
Sounds like the developers won. THe airport was closed and part of the land was redeveloped. Some of the old hangar space is now a film studio. The 1920’s terminal is protected as historic and has been refurbished. It looks like someone does balloon rides from the grounds, so a little aviation is still going on there even though “closed” as an airfield.
