Almost a biennial topic and theme re Building Regulations for Nissen Huts and don’t forget T2s. Here’s a post of mine from 2011 whilst commenting on Sywell’s excellent ‘Paul Morgan Hall’:

“Newark only managed to secure a set of hoops for its Engine Hall the cladding was completely beyond use.

To secure Planning Permission they had to agree to plastic coated cladding to match the existing buildings and it was completed with only a single set of sheets – seemingly hence the condensation issues.

As the structural calculations indicated that the building would fall down, one of the trustees had to identify exiting sites that used Nissen Huts so the Building Regs people could go out on site and see existing units standing safely!”

Good luck with the work up there, get the building calculations done manually and don’t rely on computers, which say they will fall down!!

Footnote: NAM’s issue with Nissen Huts was back in the late 1980s!

Thanks Howard! Go with GT Evans – they are brilliant. Not as expensive as you might think either – deffo go with new Galv tins – prime with Galvaprime then paint. No issues with cladding for us – deffo use TWO sets of tins as designed otherwise no strength. If we had our time again we would only use new tins and insulate with rockwool. Further, much to be said for running electrical conduits outside inner tins and inside outer ones.
