Unfortunately not any photos – had a few hours spare so had a trip over to East Midlands Aeropark. When got there, there was a bouncy castle on site with plenty of people around, with a sign at the entrance to the car park saying ‘closed for today only’, with a few disgruntled ‘plane spotters outside. Anyone know what it was closed for? Presumably some corporate day. Was pretty annoyed as checked opening times etc last night and there wasn’t anything mentioned. Ah well, if they don’t want my money then i’m sure i’ll find somewhere else that does!

EMA is a great place to visit. I agree that having a whole VC10 would be better but the tail would have been too high, too close to the runway. Also, moving a complete VC10 to the Aeropark would have been a costly excercise. XV108, even though it is not complete, is well looked after by a dedicated team of volunteers. The VC10 is not open every day so if you do want to look inside, it is best to contact EMA beforehand to check.

They were actually offered 108 complete, but couldn’t take it i believe as the VC10 tailplane would have overhung the boundary fence, so they got the front instead, which is such a shame, though I have sat in her again and was allowed full cockpit access, having sat in, flown in, worked on and ground run her hundreds of times. I live in the village and drive past the museum daily.. You also have problems getting stuff over to the site as there is no taxyway around that side of the site and you are in the ILS critical zone when crossing to it.

Aerial view of the Aeropark that I took a few years ago from a departing B737 from EMA, I think there are more aircraft there now ( VC10), however this might give a good overview for those thinking of going there.

Cheers Baz, unfortunately the trusty ole Samsung mobile isn’t exactly the professional photographers choice of equipment – but hopefully you get the general idea! 😉
But getting back to the museum itself if you’re in the neighbourhood take a picnic and enjoy mate!

You should have tried for MAM.
Lovely day, plenty of people around (museum folk and visitors), all the airframes sparkling in the sun, superb tuna sandwich and coffee, F-4 started getting its first camo coat and several engine bays opened to view.
