Air races – Crash at Southend in 50's

I think it was a Proctor that had a mid-air with another light aircraft during the race. One of them lost part of a wing & cartwheeled in just outside the boundary fence, the other managed to land with about a foot of it’s prop tips bent forward.
Have tried to get details but NADA so far. Anyone help with a link or sumfink?
