The restart comes after the airline suspended services in March 2020 due to Covid

Air Canada has announced it will resume connections to the south Californian airport of San Diego on August 1, with a daily rotation to Vancouver.

The year-round flights will utilise one of the airlines’ Express fleet of Mitsubishi CRJ900 aircraft, with the restart of cross-border operations coming as the Canadian government is reopening the border to fully vaccinated travellers on August 9. It means that the airline will become the first to resume flights between the country and San Diego.

Kimberly Becker, San Diego County Regional Airport Authority president and CEO, said: “We extend a very warm welcome back to Air Canada. The nonstop route between San Diego and Vancouver serves as an important link between Southern California and Canada as passengers can connect to many destinations throughout the Great White North from Vancouver. We appreciate the resumption of service.”
