Isavia - the operator of Reykjavik’s Keflavik Airport - has selected Alstef Group to design, build, and integrate its new arrivals and departure baggage handling technology.

The terminal expansion project will include an outbound infrastructure upgrade, to replace the existing hold baggage screening (HBS) system with new explosive detection system (EDS) machines.

Meanwhile, the hub’s arrivals facility will receive two new inclined carousels, and a new oversize inbound line.

Alstef’s innovative solution will provide improved conveyor connectivity and redundancy to the new equipment.

“We chose Alstef Group as a contractor for this project based on quality, price, and their technical compliance,” said Maren Lind Másdóttir, Isavia’s director of assets and infrastructure. “We believe we can build a strong partnership with Alstef Group to make this complex project a success for us both.”

Alstef’s head of airport sales, Philippe Hamon, added: “[The] group has integrated baggage handling systems at airports all over the world, but this is our first project in Iceland.
