Avinor reports group-wide traffic increases

The operator has seen a strong recovery in domestic travel demand while international connections remain sluggish

State owned Norwegian airport operator Avinor has announced its passenger figures for August, detailing that 2.46 million passengers travelled to or from the group’s facilities during the month.

This is a decrease of around 50% compared with 2019 figures but an increase of 45% from the same month in 2020.

The airports handled over three times more domestic traffic than international with only 559,260 customers travelling outside of the country compared to 1.86m domestically.

Gaute Skallerud Riise, VP traffic development at Avinor Group, said: “We see that the number of passenger journeys continues to increase month by month, and more passenger travelled in August compared to July. It is especially the domestic market that is developing strongly.”

Air cargo has also continued to see strong demand with a 13.6% increase compared to 2020, which has been mainly driven by strong demand for Norwegian seafood and positive developments in e-commerce, according to the operator.
