The innovative baggage solution will simplify the passenger experience whilst reducing queues inside Terminal 5

British Airways has partnered with AirPortr to develop new luggage drop-off points at Heathrow Express train platforms.

Set to operate from July 19 during peak times, the fast and convenient service will enable passengers to travel through Terminal 5 bag-free.

AirPortr’s team will seal, secure, and check in bags, before being collected from the reclaim at their destination.

Upon receiving their digital tag receipts, travelers can track their luggage online throughout its passage from the platform to the aircraft.

Alternatively, they can arrange for it to be collected from their home address or office by a vetted delivery driver.

“Ahead of July 19, we have been busy investigating and trialling ways to ensure that we can offer our customers the smoothest journey through the airport possible,” said Tom Stevens, BA’s director of customer experience.

He added: “We believe this contactless initiative with AirPortr allows our customers to avoid baggage check-in queues and move through the airport without the hassle of carrying luggage, as well as offering the reassurance that we are doing everything we can to ensure the safe delivery of their bags from doorstep to destination.”

The bag-drop points will be provided free of charge to BA customers that have checked-in online prior to arriving at the airport, and are compliant with their booked baggage allowances. The airline has said it plans to explore options for additional drop-off areas at other key locations in the future.
