Battle of Normandy released

The IL-2 Sturmovik team has announced that after almost three years of development Battle of Normandy is now released in Early Access.

The official release includes two versions. Battle of Normandy Standard Edition contains eight player-controlled aircraft and a Premium Edition with two Collector planes; each aircraft includes a slew of historically correct modifications:

The Premium Edition includes two Collector aircraft: the Supermarine Spitfire Mk.XIV – British fighter and the Arado Ar 234 Blitz – German twin-engine jet bomber and recon aircraft.

Career mode includes new mission types, new airfield types, and new airfields appearing on the map after D-Day - bringing their total amount to 100 with historically accurate layouts. New objects were also created for the module, including ships, ground vehicles, buildings, coastal defences, V-1 buzz bombs and their launch positions, dozens of new aircraft paint schemes, etc.

Update 5.001 also contains improvements to the damage model and many other fixes and improvements. For example, the mission loading times have been reduced, and pilot and tank crew AI is more realistic. The full changelog is available here.
