The facility also won its first ever Service Quality Award from Airports Council International

Belgrade Airport has today announced the next stage of its objective to create a new airport hub in southeast Europe thanks to a terminal extension, a second runway and the complete renovation of the existing landing strip.

The new 130,000 square foot Pier C terminal extension will be fully completed by the end of the year and include a smart flow management system. Additionally, the airport has already opened a revamped boarding area, showcasing Serbian gastronomy and local brands, as well as a new remote car park and bus gate that ensure greater accessibility.

VINCI, the operator of the site will complete its modernisation in the next three years, allowing a total capacity of 15 million annual passengers by the time the works are complete, according to the group.

The added benefit is that the modernisation of the facility will also improve its environmental performance with schemes such as the construction of a 1MW self-consumption photovoltaic park, a new natural gas power plant to replace heavy fuel-oil and a wastewater treatment plant with the aim to remove 100% of the airport’s solid waste by the end of 2022.
