Bristol Airport introduces new net zero initiative

The scheme aims to reduce the sector’s environmental impact by providing funding to projects that focus on decarbonising aviation

Bristol Airport has launched a new fund to help fast track decarbonisation schemes in South West England, specifically focussing on emissions produced from flight activity at the base.

The Aviation Carbon Transition (ACT) Programme plans to support projects that focus on reducing the environmental impact of airport infrastructure. Additionally, it is also set to research and develop methods of decarbonisation for alternative fuels, as well as develop processes to eliminate CO2.

“The launch of the ACT Programme will enable us to develop initiatives and projects to contribute towards decarbonising aviation and the creation of green jobs,” said Simon Earles, sustainability and corporate affairs director, Bristol Airport.

“We are making great progress towards our target to be carbon neutral for emissions under our direct control by 2025, the ACT Programme demonstrates our commitment to working with others to support innovation in relation to decarbonising transport and flight emissions outside of our direct control. We look forward to reviewing applications in due course.”

Businesses and organisations will be able to apply for funding – which currently sits at £250,000 – by submitting projects for consideration from July 1.
