‘Caldwell’ Spitfire flies in Australia
Supermarine Spitfire VIII MV154, based until recently at Duxford with Maxi Gainza, made its first flight since being exported to Australia at Archerfield Airport, just south of Brisbane, Queensland on 18 October. The fighter is now owned by Peter Gartshore, and pilot for the first flight was Cameron Rolph-Smith, the boss of restoration, maintenance and warbird operations outfit Performance Aero at Archerfield.It has been repainted in the markings of a Spitfire VIII, A58-484, flown by 28.5-victory ace Clive ‘Killer’ Caldwell
