A pair of former Spanish military aircraft have been prepared for public display in their homeland

De Havilland Canada DHC-4 Caribou T.9-5/372-05 has been put on show at Getafe air base near Madrid, Spain. It’s painted to represent T.9-22/353-22, a US Army CV-2A purchased by Spain to serve with Ala 35’s 353 Escuadrón in the 1980s.

As none of the original US airframes were available for restoration, it was decided to use a Caribou stored at Cuatro Vientos. The latter lacked meteorological radar so the nose has been painted black to simulate the radome of the US-built Caribou. The team at Getafe is also preparing the cockpit section of Caribou EC-GQL (formerly T.9-1/372-01) to become a touring exhibit.

After spending more than a year in storage, CASA CN-235M-10 TR.19A-01/403-01 was also recently unveiled at the base. A former Ala 35 VIP transport, it was converted for photographic use in 2008 and, designated a TR.19A, served 403 Escuadrón. It made its final flight on July 28, 2022.
