CH-53K ferries F-35C from Maryland to New Jersey
In showcasing the external load lifting capabilities of the USMC’s new CH-53K King Stallion heavy-lift transport helicopter, USMC personnel assigned to Marine Test and Evaluation Squadron 1 (VMX-1) at MCAS Yuma, Arizona, recently transferred an inoperable F-35C Lightning II airframe from NAS Patuxent River, Maryland, to Joint Base McGuire-Dix-Lakehurst, New Jersey.This landmark mission, which took place on April 24, saw the USMC-operated CH-53K transport the approximately 22,000lb F-35C airframe from its previous home with the F-35 Integrated Test Force (ITF)
