
The MiG-17 is a subsonic fighter developed by the Soviet Union to improve the high-speed issues encountered in the MiG-15. It became the first Soviet fighter jet to feature an afterburner greatly improving its performance. The result was one of the most successful transonic fighters ever developed.
Ultimately, the MiG-17 was flown by more than 30 countries over three decades and was also built under license outside of the USSR in Poland and China. It is most famous for its role in the Vietnam War, where its ambush and tight quarter dogfight tactics proved highly successful.

Developed by Red Star Simulations, the MiG-17F for DCS is being made with a primary focus on accurate flight dynamics using Soviet wind test tunnel data, performance manuals, US test results from a captured aircraft and with the help of current MiG-17 pilots.

The aircraft will also feature an ASP-4N gunsight with SRD-1M gun radar, SPO-2 Sirena RWR, SRO-2 Khrom IFF, ARK-5 ADF radio navigation and standard and Egyptian weapons upgrade. No release date has yet been announced.
