Desert Storm EF-111A to be refurbished

General Dynamics EF-111A Raven 66-0047 is being restored at Silver Springs Regional airport in Silver Springs Nevada

The aircraft was towed out from the Cactus Air Force restoration area for an open day at the facility in October last year. This airframe flew 36 missions in Operation Desert Storm with the 42nd ECS 66th ECW from Upper Heyford, Oxfordshire, and last served with the 85th TES at Eglin Air Force Base (AFB) in Florida.

The ‘Spark Vark’ still carries a faded MTF tail code and a red diamond tailband from its last assignment. Its final flight took place on June 18, 1996 – damaged in a landing incident at Cannon AFB, New Mexico, it was written off and withdrawn from use. NATE LEONG
