Obtaining a negative Covid-19 test is now the only requirement needed to travel between the two countries

Dubai Airports has welcomed the Italian government’s decision to renounce the ten-day quarantine requirement for all travellers arriving from the UAE, relying instead on test-based procedures.

Passengers flying to Rome/Fiumicino, Milan/Malpensa and Venice/Marco Polo from the Emirates will have to obtain a negative Covid-19 test result prior to departure and upon arrival.

Paul Griffiths, CEO of Dubai Airports, believes this decision “is an important step towards recovery from the global pandemic”.

He added: “It demonstrates the confidence that both countries have in their approach to overcoming the effects of the COVID-19 pandemic and is one of the most significant bilateral travel corridors which are vital to reboot travel. We hope that other countries will follow Italy's example in leading the global recovery.”

Once all the necessary measures have been taken, travellers will then be able to move around the country without restrictions.

“What the world desperately needs now is a safe return to the mobility and connectivity to aid the momentum of economic recovery, based on prudent risk management rather than risk avoidance,” Griffiths concluded.

The quarantine-free corridor to Italy is the latest addition to the agreements recently signed by the UAE, which includes Greece, Serbia, Seychelles and Bahrain.
