Photos suggest the aircraft’s undercarriage collapsed during landing

East Midlands Airport’s runway was temporarily closed this morning after an incident involving an AT-16 Harvard.

The vintage trainer suffered a technical fault with its undercarriage after landing shortly before 10.30am.

Two crew members escaped unharmed, and the aircraft was eventually removed by crane. The runway has since been reopened.

"Our fire teams were on the scene immediately and fortunately the two crew were unharmed,” said an airport spokesperson. "The runway is back open and operational. There was no disruption to the passenger operation."

Harvard KF183 (G-CORS) is currently operated by Rolls Royce’s heritage flight, having been previously based at Boscombe Down with the Empire Test Pilots School (ETPS).
