Ex-US Army Black Hawks arrive in Afghanistan
THE INITIAL two US Army surplus UH-60A+ Black Hawks for the Afghan Air Force (AAF) were delivered to Kandahar Airfield on September 18. They were transported by US Air Force C-17A from Huntsville, Alabama, departing on September 15. The two helicopters are the first of a planned 159 US Army surplus Black Hawks that will be shipped to Afghanistan. The UH-60s are planned to replace the AAF’s ageing fleet of Mi-17s over the next five years under the Aviation Transition
