Israel Aerospace Industries (IAI) announced at the Farnborough Air Show on July 21 that it had signed a contract worth over $200m to provide a special mission aircraft to an unspecified European country.
No details were given regarding the country involved except that it is a NATO member. The special mission aircraft will be developed by IAI’s Group and subsidiary ELTA Systems Ltd, home to Israel’s radar and intelligence technology. IAI’s special mission aircraft, which are already active in Israel and in many countries around the world, are used to detect, alert and collect strategic intelligence information.
Additionally, IAI did not specify the type of aircraft involved. However, an image accompanying the press release showed a Gulfstream G550 'Nachshon Eitam' Conformal Airborne Early Warning (CAEW)/Signals Intelligence (SIGINT) aircraft in Israeli Air Force colours.
