Final Airbus BelugaXL rolls out factory

The sixth and final Airbus BelugaXL has rolled out the factory at the manufacturer’s plant in Toulouse.

The jet F-GXLO (c/n 2041) wears a special livery with the titles “Also flying outsized cargo to your destination” applied.

Based on the A330-200F, the aircraft is set for delivery to Airbus Transport International (ATI), an airline subsidiary of the airframer tasked with flying large aircraft parts between its factories and assembly lines around the world.

The BelugaXL made its first flight in July 2018.

The type replaced the A300-derived BelugaST in this role, but the four previous generation examples have been retained and now provide outsized freight transportation solutions to cargo companies under a separate operational division of ATI called Airbus Beluga Transport (ABT).

Airbus states that the company’s first mission took place at the end of 2021 when ABT was contracted to deliver a helicopter from Airbus Helicopters’ Marignane, France production facility to Kobe, Japan. The flight was operated by Beluga #3, F-GSTC (c/n 765) which made refuelling stops in Warsaw, Poland; Novosibirsk, Russia and Seoul, South Korea before reaching Kobe.

Only six BelugaXLs are being made and this example is the final one to roll out of the factory.

Key.Aero understands that this was the delivery of All Nippon Helicopter’s first Airbus Helicopters H160, JA01NH (c/n 1004).

F-GXLO is set to join five other BelugaXLs, the first of which joined the fleet in December 2019.

All six of the aircraft are powered by Rolls-Royce Trent 700 engines.
