The Flughafen Wien Group recorded its highest passenger figures last month since the outbreak of COVID-19.
The operator – which handles Vienna, Malta and Kosice airports – experienced a vast decline of 45.3% compared to pre-pandemic levels. However, this is still more than double the number of passengers recorded in the same month in 2020.

It was reported that the number of local customers fell by 44.5%, whereas transfer traffic decreased by 40.7%, compared with August 2019.
The group also recorded that passenger numbers from Vienna Airport to Western Europe fell by 41.9% compared to pre-pandemic figures. Comparatively, figures for those travelling to the Eastern region declined by 37.7%.
Similarly, traffic from the Austrian hub to North America depleted by 44.9%, alongside Africa (a drop of 72.2%).
