Extensive health measures have been implemented to prepare for the re-opening, including the introduction of 3,000 floor markings, 480 transparent partitions at the check-in desks, social distancing procedures and 30 sanitiser dispensers.

Due to the on-going pandemic, more passengers are expected to drive in their own vehicles to the airport.

“We’re very pleased to announce that, after more than a year, Terminal 2 will finally be reopening,” said Sascha Konig, head of Fraport’s terminal resource department.

“This will put us in an excellent position for handling the predicted increase in passenger volumes during the upcoming summer months. Of course, we’re also doing everything possible to prevent infection and safeguard the health of our passengers and employees at Terminal 2.”

Retail and hospitality outlets are also set to reopen from the beginning of next month, with food and beverages being issued on a takeaway basis for the foreseeable future.

The viewing terrace located in Terminal 2 is expected to remain closed until August.

Due to the decrease in air traffic early last year, the decision was made to close the base in March 2020. Since then, Fraport has carried out upgrades, repairs and modernisation projects at the facility, including the construction of five new skylights.

According to the organisation, all of terminal’s technical systems, cables and electrical software has been enhanced.
